College Readiness AR Progress

Action Research Project Title: College Readiness and High School Seniors Blog URL: http://cliftonactionresearch.blogspot.com/ Number of AR Project Documented Hours: 20 AR Project Summary: Up to this point with the help of the high school counselor and administrators I have been collecting test data which includes TAKS, PSAT, SAT, ACT, and benchmark testing data. I have collected college readiness indicators and I am compiling a list of these indicators. I will make a control group of indicators to compare student data against. I will use this information to determine our seniors college readiness based on these standards. Once I have determined based on these indicators that students are either college ready or not I will note if they have been accepted to their college or university of choice. I originally was going to use only information from the 2011 – 2012 school year. I have since decided that I have the time and information to utilized information from the current school year as well. With the information that I have collected to this point I have seen some interesting correlation. We have had multiple students that have been accepted to universities and from their testing data I have said to be college ready. Upon acceptance to their university of choice they are told they will have to take remedial classes during their first semester. What I am attempting to find is an indicator of something that we are not doing to prepare our students for college. If we can improve on something that we are doing we can save students time and money on them having to take remedial classes.
